Super Bowl in Roma

Thanks to the copious amounts of snow Rome thought we received, classes were cancelled for everyone on Monday. That meant the weekend consisted of another day, which was perfect timing because the Super Bowl was that night/morning. Kickoff didn't begin until 12:30 so you can imagine that everyone was thrilled there would be no academic repercussions the next day. A group of us decided to watch the game at the ever-popular Scholar's Irish Pub. We thought we had a great game plan. Get there early, have some American food for dinner, and have a table for the game. Apparently it was a really original idea. We arrived at 8:30 and every table was taken by eager Giants and Patriots fans. So we had to have a change of plans and come back closer to game time. It was us and maybe every other American student in Rome, oh and some die hard Italian fans? We had some Italian boys laughing at us because we were Broncos and Packers fans while they were Patriots fans. They play "American football" over here so they must know it all. You can imagine we were pleased with the result of the game after having that conversation. Even though the bar was packed to its maximum capacity (it really was, they had to send people away) it was a very cool experience. When the National Anthem came on before the game, the bar was singing in unison. It may not have sounded that great, but it was a unifying feeling. U.S.A. chants soon followed. We were all proud to be Americans in a place where we sometimes say we're Canadians to avoid the eye rolls.

Enjoying the game (Extremely sweaty)

Just one room of the bar filled with American football fans
