Last week was a little busy with the late night cramming for midterms...I know it's shocking to believe I actually have class here. To treat ourselves for our hard work, a few of us took a quick trip up to Venice. Before the sun was even up Sasha, Bonnie, Hailey, and I were on a plane. To start the day off, we took a water taxi to the island of the Murano. The small island was still waking up, so it was just the four of us and the elderly fishermen strolling along the sidewalks along the Adriatic. Every shop we walked past was filled with intricate glass pieces of art. We were lucky enough to find a shop opened filled with chandeliers, vases, spiders, ornaments, and anything else you would want to see made out of glass. I felt like a child frightened that every turn I made would break something worth just a couple hundred euro. I found it best to just keep my hands in my pockets. Behind the store the glassblowers were hard at work. Well sort of at work, they stopped to eat their sandwiches and have a few smoke breaks while we were there. They definitely were not trying to impress us. We sat in amazement as the men effortlessly put together pieces of a beautiful chandelier. They made it seem like one of the easiest tasks of their day.
